This is for the passenger seat or a parked car. The display carries a standing notice about it, and we would rather repeat it here than leave it implied: the driver should not be reading lyrics.

How Lyrical connects
Car lyrics are free. Follow as many songs as you like. There is no daily limit and no subscription required for the car display.
It follows the sound, not a streaming account. Your phone recognizes the audio in the car, so it works with Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, a Bluetooth phone, a USB stick, or the radio.
You never link your Tesla account. Reading now-playing from the car requires authorizing a third party against your Tesla login. Lyrical pairs the two screens with a QR code instead, so it does not connect to the vehicle account.
Lyric source. Lyrics come from Musixmatch under licence. Lyrical uses the words, line breaks, and timing supplied by the licensed source.
For now, your phone needs to stay in the car with Lyrical running. The car browser receives each lyric from the phone.

Open the browser on the Tesla screen
Open lyrical.glass/car in the Tesla browser. Lyrical runs as a web page, so there is nothing to install on the car.

Pair your phone by scanning the code
The car screen shows a pairing code. Scan it with the Lyrical app on your phone and the two are linked for the session.

Play something
Your phone recognizes the track and pushes each line to the car screen as the song moves. The page is laid out for a wide, bright touchscreen rather than a phone held at arm's length.

Phone-paired mode is how this works today. Scan the pairing code shown on the car screen, and your phone handles recognition and pushes each line across. The car itself does not sign in to a music or Tesla account.
A future phoneless mode will let the car browser sign in to Spotify or Apple Music and read now-playing directly. Today's version uses the paired phone.

- Yes, with all of them. Your phone recognizes the audio playing in the car rather than reading one streaming service's now-playing feed, so Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, a Bluetooth phone, a USB stick, and the radio all work the same way.
- Do I have to connect my Tesla account?
- No. Lyrical pairs with your phone through a QR code shown on the car screen. Nothing is authorized against your Tesla login and nothing stays connected to the vehicle.
- Do I need to install anything in the car?
- No. Open the web page in the car's existing browser. It does not require a Tesla app or a sideloaded package.
- Can the driver use it?
- No. Lyrical Drive is for passengers or a parked car, and the display carries a standing notice to that effect. Do not interact with it while driving.
- Does it work without my phone?
- Not yet. A phoneless mode that signs the car browser in to Spotify or Apple Music directly is planned but not available. Today the car screen needs a paired phone running Lyrical.
- Does this only work in Teslas?
- No. Any car with a reasonably modern browser can open the same page. Tesla gets its own page because it is the car people ask about.
- Are the lyrics official or crowd-sourced?
- Lyrics come from Musixmatch under licence. Lyrical uses the words, line breaks, and timing supplied by the licensed source.
- What happens when the car loses signal?
- Lyrics are fetched over the network, so a dead zone stops new lines from arriving. The page reconnects and catches up once you are back in coverage.
